• History

MBT South Africa was formed in 1996 and has enjoyed more than 20 years of success in distributing polymers across southern and central Africa. The Company is still owned by its founding shareholders, the MB Barter and Trading Group of Zug, Switzerland and Dick Coates, resident here in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Focussing initially on South Africa in the 1990’s , the Company then expanded its activities very strongly in the 2000’s to include central and east Africa, covering a range of expanding countries experiencing high growth rates, young populations and increasing urbanisation – all factors influential in driving polymer demand. As a result MBT South Africa is well attuned to politico-economic developments and the changing nature of the polymer supply demand balance across the region.

Dick is now Chairman of the company,
concentrating his efforts into risk exposure
and mitigation, and providing customer and
product technical support when necessary.
